On June 14th at 4:00 pm, Cathy Vorisek from Vorisek’s Backyard Bee Farm
in Linesville will present: “Bees: from Hive to Honey.” Owners, Cathy and her
husband Charlie are active members of the Pennsylvania State Beekeepers
Association and have run the apiary for almost 20 years.
Vorisek’s Backyard Bee Farm grew out of an FFA (Future Farmers of
America) enterprise. In 1992, their oldest daughter, Carleen, started beekeeping as an agriculture project. She embraced it and became proficient. A second daughter, Shanna, continued beekeeping as an FFA project until 2004. When the girls graduated, Cathy and Charlie inherited the bee farm and have run it ever since.
In addition to bottling honey and honey products, the Voriseks take bees to
different places in Crawford and Erie County for pollination purposes.
When Cathy is not “busy as a bee” operating the apiary, you can find her
traveling to schools. With her degree in education from Edinboro University, she
uses every chance she has to teach children about bees and how they make honey.
The presentation “Bees: from Hive to Honey” will include a tasting of
different types of honey and a sample of blueberry mead (also made from honey). Products will be available for purchase. For more information, you can visit Vorisek’s Backyard Bee Farm’s website at: https://www.vbeefarm.com/
Looking forward to everyone “bee-ing “there!
